Washing the Drapes

Take a part of this label and follow these steps if your draperies are machine washable:
Carefully remove the curtains from the rods (it is ideal to have someone help you with this as you will most likely require a step stool or little ladder to reach the rods). NEVER tug or pull on the draperies to receive them down as this might damage the cloth, the rods or the walls.

Hand wash each panel in cool water and a detergent such as Woolite. For drapes, it could be much easier to use the bathtub in place of the sink.

The most common cause of damage to draperies during the cleaning method is warmth; when in doubt (particularly if having a commercial drier not familiar to you), use the”no heat” setting. TIP: If you’re fortunate enough to have an old clothesline, then rather than the dryer, hang your draperies out to dry on the clothesline. You won’t have to worry about overheating, and the drapes will have a natural fresh odor. To maintain fabric from fading, prevent hanging in sun.
Eliminate draperies out of your dryer if needed and press lightly. Again, check for settings in your tag. If no indication is provided, use a cool iron. To prevent damage, use the iron only on the REVERSE side of their draperies.
Replace the pins or hooks (if any) and then re-hang the draperies on the sticks. Again, it is best to do this with another person assisting.
