How to Wash Drapes

Drapery Cleaning in Seal Beach — Cleaning the draperies can extend their life and free your house of unwanted dust, dirt, pet hair and other allergens.
Weekly Maintenance
Remove dust from your curtains with your vacuum. Most vacuums have a soft brush attachment which is fantastic for the drapes. Set the brush attachment on the end of brush and then the hose in a up and down movement throughout the fabric. A vacuum also works well for this undertaking.
Washing the Drapes
IMPORTANT: Before attempting to clean your draperies, CHECK THE TAGS. A few draperies should ONLY BE CLEANED PROFESSIONALLY. NEVER wash them :
They aren’t specifically labeled as washable (when they’re lined, be sure BOTH the drapery fabric and the liner are listed as machine washable).
The cloth is broken, frayed or faded (i.e. by sunlight)

Other vases or trim Aren’t recorded as color-fast

Take a part of this label and follow these steps if your draperies are machine washable:
Carefully remove the curtains from the rods (it is ideal to have someone help you with this as you will most likely require a step stool or little ladder to reach the rods). NEVER tug or pull on the draperies to receive them down as this might damage the cloth, the rods or the walls.
The draperies are wrapped with pins or hooks, if get rid of and place them apart.
Hand wash each panel in cool water and a detergent such as Woolite. For drapes, it could be much easier to use the bathtub in place of the sink.
In your washer, the drapes can be placed Instead on the GENTLE cycle, using warm or cold water, as indicated on the tag. If the label doesn’t indicate a temperature setting, elect for chilly. Use a mild detergent without bleach. If your draperies are bulky or large, consider carrying them into a laundromat or doing the panels at some time at which you are able to use washers.
Place the drapes in a drier on the atmosphere indicated on the label (most likely low heat). If no dryer setting is signaled, put on”no heat” (fluff) setting. Take care to not overload the dryer.
Consider doing a single panel at one time or taking them into a laundromat with dryers. The most common cause of damage to draperies during the cleaning method is warmth; when in doubt (particularly if having a commercial drier not familiar to you), use the”no heat” setting. TIP: If you’re fortunate enough to have an old clothesline, then rather than the dryer, hang your draperies out to dry on the clothesline. You won’t have to worry about overheating, and the drapes will have a natural fresh odor. To maintain fabric from fading, prevent hanging in sun.
Eliminate draperies out of your dryer if needed and press lightly. Again, check for settings in your tag. If no indication is provided, use a cool iron. To prevent damage, use the iron only on the REVERSE side of their draperies.
Replace the pins or hooks (if any) and then re-hang the draperies on the sticks. Again, it is best to do this with another person assisting.
