How to Wash Drapes
Drapery Cleaning in Valencia — Cleaning the draperies into your home can prolong their life and free your house of unwanted dust, dirt, pet hair and allergens.
Weekly Maintenance
Eliminate dust from your drapes along with your vacuum. Most vacuums have a soft brush attachment that’s perfect for the drapes. Set the brush attachment at the end of brush and this hose in a up and down motion across the cloth. A vacuum also works nicely for this undertaking.
Washing the Drapes
IMPORTANT: Before trying to clean your draperies, CHECK THE TAGS. Some draperies should ONLY BE CLEANED PROFESSIONALLY. NEVER wash them if:
They are not specifically labeled as washable (when they’re lined, be sure BOTH the drapery fabric and the lining are recorded as machine washable).
The fabric is broken, frayed or disappeared (i.e. by sun )
The draperies are pleated
Other embellishments or trim are not listed as color-fast
The draperies contain an indication for”dry clean only”
If the draperies indicate”dry clean only,” you should take them to a dry cleaner that specializes in draperies and window treatments. Take a part of this tag and follow these steps, if your draperies are machine washable:
Carefully remove the drapes from the sticks (it’s ideal to have someone help you with this because you will most likely require a step stool or little ladder to get to the sticks ). NEVER tug or pull on the draperies to receive them down since this may damage the sticks, the fabric or the walls.
In the event the draperies are hung with pins or hooks get rid of and set them aside.
Hand wash every panel in water and a detergent such as Woolite. For drapes that are large, it may be easier to use the tub rather than the sink.
Instead, the curtains can be put to the GENTLE cycle in your washer, as indicated on the tag, using warm or cold water. Opt for chilly if the label doesn’t indicate a temperature setting. Use a mild detergent. If your draperies are large or bulky, consider doing the panels at a time or carrying them to a laundromat at which you are able to use oversize washers.
Place the curtains in a dryer on the atmosphere indicated on the tag (most likely low heat). Take care not to overload the dryer as well.
Look at carrying them to a laundromat with dryers that are oversized or doing a single panel at one time. The usual cause of harm to draperies through the cleaning method is warmth; if in doubt (particularly if having a commercial drier not familiar for you), use the”no heat” setting. TIP: If you’re lucky enough to have an old fashioned clothesline, rather than the dryer, hang your draperies out to dry on the clothesline. You won’t have to worry about overheating, and the curtains are going to have scent that is fresh that is natural. To keep fabric avoid hanging in direct sun.
Eliminate from your dryer and press if needed. Again, check your tag for settings. If no indication is given, use a cool iron. To avoid damage, use the iron on the REVERSE side of their draperies.
Replace the pins or hooks (if any) and re-hang the draperies on the sticks. Again, it is best to do this with another person assisting.
