Fumigating the carpets is an easy way to get rid of the smoke smell without having to completely gut the room.
To treat the damaged regions, sieve some baking soda and apply it directly. Baking soda’s absorbency means it should swiftly devour the cigarette smell.
Walking around on the carpet (not barefoot!) helps distribute the baking soda and press it into the carpet fibers for uniform coverage and better results.
It’s recommended to leave the baking soda on the carpet for around 30 minutes. Baking soda can penetrate the carpet all the way to the backing if you give it enough time to sit.

The Most Effective Ways to Get Rid of Mildew Smell

Be wary, though; if the carpet gets too wet during treatment, you’ll merely create a new strain of mildew. That’s the irony to end all ironies, right there.
After the carpet has dried, the vinegar scent will be replaced by the carpet’s natural freshness.
Eliminating mold and musty smells
Someone told us that a shot of vodka will eliminate unpleasant odors like mildew and bacteria. (Please do this for the benefit of the carpet, not yourself.) Rather than covering up the smell, the alcohol will break down the molecules that are causing it.
Spray a bottle full of vodka (the clear, flavorless sort) on strong scents to eliminate them.

Blot it with a towel to dry it off.
Sprinkle some baking soda on the spot if lingering scents persist.
Stop and wait half an hour for the baking soda to settle before breaking out the vacuum.
